HB1079 pass the House Health and Human Services Committee

PIERRE, S.D.(SDBA)- The House Health and Human Services Committee Tuesday favorably recommends a bill to provide $4 million in additional funding for suicide prevention programs.
Republican Rep. Taylor Rehfeldt from Sioux Falls, House Bill 1079’s sponsor.

Rehfeldt says that suicide is the leading cause of death of youths and adults in South Dakota and more should be done.

The only person to appear in the opponents’ time was Mark Fuller with the Noem administration’s Bureau of Finance and Management.

He said Governor Kristi Noem does support suicide prevention and counseling.

On a 15 to 0 vote, the committee favorably referred the bill to the Joint Appropriations Committee for further consideration.
