HB1141 passes the South Dakota Senate with changes

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota Senate debated and passed a bill that would give a property tax credit to homeowners.

HB1141 had been hoghoused and rewritten to become the tax credit. Senator Casey Crabtree of Madison introduced the new version.

Senator Reynold Nesiba of Sioux Falls attempted to amend the bill to substitute a two cent cut in the grocery sales tax.

His amendment was defeated on a voice vote.

Senator Jim Bolin of Canton says property taxes are a hot issue.

The bill passed on a vote of thirty-one to two and will now go back to the House.
