HB1198(State Motto or Seal in School) defeated in Senate Committee

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The Senate State Affairs Committee has sent a House Bill to detention.  H-B 1198 would have required schools to post the state motto; “Under God, the People Rule” and or the state seal.  Bill sponsor, Representative Phil Jensen of Rapid City says posting the motto is a Republican bullet point.

Rob Monson, executive director of the School Administrators of South Dakota says the bill has no benefit to South Dakota education.

In is rebuttal, Jensen says the bill has been an “issue”.  That struck a nerve with Committee member Senator Lee Schoenbeck.

House Bill 1198 was moved to the 41st legislative day on a nine-zero vote.
