HB1217 fails to pass the South Dakota House

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- A bill that would change and restrict absentee voting in South Dakota was up for debate in the state House Tuesday.

Bill sponsor, Representative Scott Odenbach  (oh-den-bach) of Spearfish said he wants to get ahead of potential problems.

Odenbach says there are several problems with voting early.

Representative Oren Lesmeister of Parade says they should take the time to listen to county auditors.

The bill failed on a deadlock vote of thirty five to thirty five. Odenbach then moved for reconsideration and the bill will be back for another vote in the next few days.
