Health care systems dealing with ill people during COVID

YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- While overall Covid-19 infection numbers are dropping, health care systems are still dealing with caring for a lot of sick people.

Sanford Health Chief Medical Officer, Dr Mike Wilde says they recently hit a Covid-19 testing milestone.

Wilde says people who test at home should trust those results.

Wilde says they are getting questions from people who want to travel.

While Covid-19 infection numbers continue to fall, hospitals are still dealing with sick and dying patients.

Dr David Basel, Avera Health chief medical officer, says they are seeing their peak numbers fall off.

Basel says despite the improving trend, they are dealing with very sick people.

Basel says there could soon be a vaccination available for very young children.

The state Health Department is reporting 14,615 active cases statewide, down considerably from a week ago.
