MADISON, S.D.(KJAM)- Local and state law enforcement are investigating a high speed vehicle pursuit with shots fired that started in Minnehaha County and ended in the city of Madison Thursday afternoon.
Lake County Sheriff Tim Walburg talked about what took place with the incident that happened just before 3:00 Thursday afternoon.
Walburg said that there were reports of shots fired from the suspects’ vehicle in other areas along 1st Street, including near Egan Avenue and the Library Park area. He said that the pursuit ended in the area of Southwest 1st Street and Ramm Heights Drive, where the two suspects were eventually taken into custody. Walburg said that fortunately no one was injured in the incident.
Walburg said that the two suspects are currently being held in the Lake County Jail.
Walburg said this is an ongoing investigation involving several counties and state agencies.
Court documents filed in Lake County identify the two men arrested Thursday afternoon after a high speed pursuit with shots fired that started in Minnehaha County and ended in the City of Madison.
40-year-old James Lanpher, Jr. of Sioux Falls and 45-year-old Bonner Juel of Harrisburg are being held in the Lake County Jail on 50-thousand dollars cash bond after their arrest Thursday.
Both Lanpher and Juel are being charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault against a Law Enforcement Officer, Class Two felonies. Court documents indicate that Lanpher is on parole for aggravated assault on law enforcement and possession of a controlled substance, and that Juel is on probation for a controlled substance.
