Hot Springs man identified in pedestrian-vehicle crash near Maverick Junction

MAVERICK JUNCTION, S.D. (Press Release) – A Hot Springs, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died Monday afternoon in a pedestrian-vehicle crash near Maverick Junction.

A 2018 Chevy Impala was eastbound on U.S. Highway 18 traveling on a crest in the highway when the driver saw the pedestrian walking across the roadway. The driver attempted to avoid the pedestrian, but struck him with the front passenger side of the vehicle.

The pedestrian, 82-year-old Roger Klein, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kathryn Flock of Buffalo Gap, S.D., 72, was the driver. She was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
