Hot & windy conditions could lead to flash drought

AMES, I.A.(WNAX)- The ongoing hot and windy conditions are raising fears of a flash drought in the region.

Dennis Todey, head of the Midwest Climate Hub in Ames Iowa, says we are seeing some of those conditions.

Todey says those dry conditions can spread very rapidly.

The latest climate outlooks show warmer temperatures across much of the Northern Plains into September. Soil moisture is being depleted rapidly due to the hot, windy weather.
