PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- A bill that would restrict transgender student’s participation in sports has been approved by the South Dakota House.
HB1217 is titled “To Promote Fairness in Women’s Sports.”
House Majority Leader Kent Peterson says the bill got extensive debate in committee and on the House floor.
Peterson says there is broad support for the bill.
Peterson says they had to decide what is best for students and the state.
The bill passed on a vote of 50-17 and now moves to the Senate State Affairs Committee.
