PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The House Judiciary Committee heard testimony on SB122. The bill establish the crime of failure to summon aid for a suicide attempt and provide a penalty therefor.
Prime sponsor of the bill was Senator Carl Perry of Aberdeen. He talks about suicide figures from 2022.

Speaking against the bill was attorney Ole Oleson of Rapid City. He talks about how this could be unprecedented.
Representative Will Mortenson of Fort Pierre motioned to send it to the 41st day. He felt sympathy to the Sombke family for the tragedy occured and talked about losing friends due to suicide. At the same time he felt the bill was not ready to become law at this time.(1:31)
The committee sent the bill to the 41st day on a 9-4 vote essentially defeating the bill.
