SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- South Dakota Legislators are breathing a bit easier Tuesday, with news that Governor Kristi Noem has signed their budget bill into law.
But, the Governor has line item authority, and could still veto the sales tax rate reduction bill they passed.
Appearing on “It’s Your Business” with Bill Zortman this morning, House Majority Leader Will Mortenson says he’s still hopeful the Governor goes along with the plan.
One of the vetoes South Dakota lawmakers will take up when they return to Pierre on Monday is her rejection of changes they made to the Uniform Commercial Code.
The measure included changes dealing with crypto currencies…changes the Governor says put too much power in the hands of the federal government.
House Majority Leader Will Mortenson of Pierre isn’t very hopeful of achieving the two-thirds majority needed in both houses to override the veto.
Lawmakers return to Pierre on Monday to consider trying to override the governor’s vetoes.
