PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Legislators on a summer study committee looking at county funding as services heard testimony from county officials, many expressing concern about their counties becoming bankrupt. District 24 Representative and House Majority Leader Will Mortenson says counties have the tools to support themselves.
Mortenson isn’t concerned about counties becoming insolvent.
Mortenson does not see any adjustment to the state freeze on property taxes coming to the 2024 legislative session.
The Study Committee on County Funding and Services is bringing eight bills and two resolutions to the 99th session of the South Dakota Legislative Session.
