House Majority Leader defend decision to cut state’s sale tax rate

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota House passed a tax cut bill this week that drops the state’s sales tax rate from four-point five percent to four-point two percent.

House Majority Leader Will Mortenson of Pierre says it was a responsible vote.

Mortenson says there will be bills coming to approve construction of new prisons.

Mortenson says they also have to approve ongoing funding plans.

Lawmakers will have eight days left in the main run of the session when they return to Pierre next week.
