House State Affairs Committee move HB1009 to the 41st day

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- A bill in the South Dakota Legislation that would adjust how South Dakota deals with daylight saving time has run out of time in the House State Affairs Committee.  District 20 Representative Ben Krohmer of Mitchell says House Bill 1009 would adjust the state’s time zones and not clocks.

Fort Pierre is in the Mountain Time Zone, but abides by Central Time for daily operation except where required to use it’s official time.  Krohmer’s comment brought brief chuckles from the Committee and it’s chair, Fort Pierre’s District 24 Representative Will Mortenson.  District 2 Representative John Sjaarda of Valley Springs was on of many opponents of the measure.

Representative Gary Cammack of Union Center brought a substitute motion to kill the bill.

The vote to defer H-B 1009 to the fictional 41st legislative day, effectively killing the bill was 11 to two.
