House Taxation Committee passes HB1001

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- A bill to repeal the sunset clause in last year’s cut of South Dakota sales taxes.  Representative Chris Karr says South Dakota can support leaving the cut at four-point-two percent.

Speaking against the measure, South Dakota Retailer’s Association Executive Director Nathan Sanderson says federal money is propping up the states economy.

For Representative Liz May of Kyle the bill is about keeping the Legislature’s word to the voters.

The House Taxation Committee passed House Bill 1001 on an 11 to one vote and will move next to the House floor.
