Housing projects waiting final approval from South Dakota Housing

YANKTON, S.D.(WNAX)- A slow roll out of rules by South Dakota Housing for the use of two hundred million dollars in state and federal funds for housing infrastructure has state and local officials puzzled.

Yankton City Manager Amy Leon says it could be near impossible to fund any projects this year.

Leon, who is also President of the state Municipal League, says most state programs are pretty easy to work with.

Housing officials told the legislatures E-Board last week that new rules need to be approved by their board and the legislatures Rules Review committee before any loans or grants were awarded.

Leon says there are a number of housing projects dependent on the funding.

About thirty percent of the money is for Sioux Falls and Rapid City with the rest to be spread around the state.
