PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Housing Needs Study Committee of South Dakota Legislature has indicated its member could bring up to nine bills to address housing issues in the state. District 24 Representative Mike Weisgram of Fort Pierre was a member of that committee and says three areas stood out to him.
One possible bill proposes appropriating up to 20 million dollars to the South Dakota Housing Opportunity Fund. Weisgram believes there is momentum to make something happen.
Weisgram says if only one of the nine bills could pass the 2022 Legislature, he’d want to see a bill geared toward infrastructure costs.
Weisgram says it would be ‘unacceptable’ if the 2022 Legislature fails to pass any of the proposed Housing Study bills. None of the bills proposed in a 2017 study of housing in South Dakota passed in the 2018 session.
