Hughes County Commission agree to increase rate for inmate’s stay in jail

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Hughes County Commission has signed off on an increase in the fee charged for housing inmates at the Hughes County Jail.  Sheriff Patrick Callahan says he wants to bump the fee up 10-dollars.

If the fees increase with the consumer price index, the fee would be around 94-dollars per night.  Callahan would like to see more changes in those holding fees.

Commission chair Randy Vance says keeping up with jail fees isn’t the only area where things at the jail were not paid attention to by previous administrations.

Commissioners approved a motion to increase the inmate holding fee to 94-dollars per night.
