Hughes County Commission approves two vote centers

FORT PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – The Hughes County Commission this week approved a resolution establishing an additional two vote centers in Hughes County for the general election in November.  Auditor Jane Naylor says only three votes centers were used for the primary election.

Hughes County normally uses seven vote centers, five in Pierre and one each in Blunt and Harrold.

Naylor says the primary was a good test for the general election.

One reason for reducing the number of vote centers was reduce the number of poll workers needed. Naylor. says she’s working to fill the increased need.

Naylor ordered ballots for the election on Tuesday. She says a ballot drop box for absentee ballots will be available at the Hughes County Courthouse. The first day to conducted absentee balloting is Sept. 18 and the final day to register to vote in the Nov. 3 general election is Oct. 18th.
