PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Hughes County Commission said thanks, but no thanks Monday night to an idea to support youth hunting and the reduction of coyote population in the county. District 24 Senator Jim Mehlhaff approached the Commission on behalf of local conservationist Steve Nelson.
Mehlhaff says Nelson’s proposed change to state law would have permitted a county to increase the limit to 100-dollars. Commissioner Bill Abernathy says he’s discussed this previously with the Game, Fish and Parks Commission.
Commissioner Tom Rounds agreed saying the County can’t take on additional fees.
Mehlhaff says may bring a bill in the upcoming legislative session that would make it easier for land owners to host coyote hunters on their property.
