PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Hughes County Commission has agreed with a plan to shore up the nursing staff at the Hughes County Jail. Sheriff Patrick Callahan says the nursing shortage is affecting the jail too.
Callahan says he’s been working on a plan with Correctional Healthcare Associates for some time.
The tele-health option would provide 24/seven hour access to a health care provider. Callahan says he’s worked hard to negotiate the cost down.
The agreement would remove the county from liability issues due to malpractice actions. The agreement was approved pending review and approval by Hughes County States Attorney Jessica LaMie.
