Hughes County Jail looking to increase their costs

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The cost to keep the accused in Pierre at the Hughes County Jail may be going up.  Sheriff Patrick Callahan started the discussion with the Hughes County Commission Monday night.

Callahan would like to see the fee for housing an inmate increased about ten-dollars.

Callahan says he wants to do what’s best for Hughes County and the jail.

The Hughes County Jail holds inmates from a number of central South Dakota counties including Hughes, Stanley, Sully, Corson and federal inmates for the U-S Marshal’s Service.
