Hughes County looking at new court facility

PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – The Hughes County Commission continues moving toward looking at new space to facilitate Circuit court operations in the County. Hughes County has looked at sites for new buildings or additions at the Courthouse site in Pierre and near the Hughes County Courthouse in east Pierre.  Loren Schafer with Broz Engineering of Pierre is working with a security consultant from St. Paul, Minnesota to examine all those options and more for the Commission.

Schafer says the first step is to develop criteria of what the Commission wants to address.

Commission chair Randy Vance likes where the process is headed.

Commissioner Norm Weaver says the County has done what it can to address security issues for court operations and it’s time to move forward with a better solution.
