PINE RIDGE, S.D. (KBHB) — A human-caused fire on the Pine Ridge Reservation is reportedly at 100-percent containment, after a day that saw the fire area balloon from 200 to just short of 16-hundred acres in size.
The Wilson Road fire was reported Tuesday afternoon, and is believed to be caused by fireworks usage, in a timber area six miles north of Pine Ridge. Hot and windy conditions caused the fire to grow out of its initial containment areas Wednesday, and the hundred-or-so crew members working the fire got it fully contained at 1,575 acres as of last night.
Officials say that no homes or other structures were lost. Crews will continue mop-up operations inside the fire area today.
