Human Service Center in Yankton looking to redefine their role

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- A strategic study of the role of the Human Services Center in Yankton is underway.

Laura Ringling, Director of the Division of Behavioral Health in the Department of Social Services, appeared before the Joint Committee on Appropriations.

Ringling says they need to align services with the dollars available.

Ringling told the committee that everyone who needs help will find it.

HSC Administrator Jeremy Johnson told the committee that they continue to have a number of open positions.

Johnson says they have a number of open beds.

Johnson says there are several closed units.

Lawmakers were told that HSC is short about one hundred forty workers and currently has four units that are closed.
