YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – When Congress passed the economic stimulus bill just before Christmas, they extended the deadline for states to spend the federal dollars to the end of this year.

Senator Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says that give them more time to look at spending details.

Hunhoff, the Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, says local governments can apply for more funding.

Hunhoff says they need to know where those dollars are being spent.

The state had several hundred million dollars waiting to be spent on pandemic related expenses at the end of last year.
