Illinois man dies from injuries sustained in motorcycle crash west of Okaton

OKATON, S.D. (Press Release) – A Joliet, Ill., man has died as a result of injuries sustained in an Aug. 23, 2020 motorcycle crash west of Okaton.

A 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 248 when it hit a deer that was in the roadway. The driver, 51-year-old Ronald Pilon, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet.

The driver was taken by ambulance to the Philip hospital and then airlifted to a Rapid City hospital. He died as a result of his injuries on Monday, Sept. 7.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
