PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- President Biden has asked Congress to suspend the eighteen cent per gallon federal gas tax through September as a way to cut costs for consumers.
South Dakota Transportation Department Secretary Joel Jundt says any cut in that funding could be a problem.
Jundt spoke to the Transportation Commission at their meeting in Pierre Thursday.
Jundt says there is no guarantee that drivers would see the full benefit.
He says each retailer could then decide how to price a gallon of gas.
Jundt says the overall impact would not be significant.
Many Members of Congress were skeptical that the cut would achieve much.
