WASHINGTON, D.C. (WNAX) – South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson is co-sponsoring a bill that would regulate food derived from cell cultured technology.
The bill would use the FDA and USDA to ensure food and labeling safety. Johnson calls it a consumer protection issue.
Johnson says while the bill would label cell cultured meat, there are still roadblocks to moving toward “Country of Origin Labeling” for imported meat.
Some livestock groups are pushing for a return to “COOL” to protect U.S. producers.
