Johnson says COVID and trade payments can’t be norm going forward

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WNAX) – The COVID 19 pandemic along with weather and trade challenges in 2020 led to billions in payments to farmers and ranchers. South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson says while it’s critical to keep supporting American Agriculture, those level of payments can’t continue.

The incoming Biden administration is looking at a different way to advance trade and would also like to see some type of immigration reform passed in Congress. Johnson says while advancing trade is doable, passing immigration is a very different challenge.

The Congressman says keeping Americans fed and farmers and ranchers operating is an absolute priority.

Johnson says Congress will keep busy during the lame duck session and is already beginning work on the next farm bill.
