WASHINGTON, D.C. (WNAX) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture has released some preliminary findings from its investigation into the cattle markets following the Holcomb, Kansas meat plant fire last year. South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson says the investigation was inconclusive.
He says the report calls for some minor fixes that he’s tried to introduce in some of his legislation.
Johnson says USDA’s report also calls for better risk management for cattle producers. He also says improvement in cattle market transparency was addressed by the USDA.
Johnson noted that there are two other cattle market investigations still ongoing, one from the USDA and another from the U.S. Justice Department.
