Johnson retiring as Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry Dept.

ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – A man who has played a key role in the development of Aberdeen for the better part of four decades is putting in his final hours of work this week.

Doug Johnson, Director of the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department, is retiring after nearly 40 years with the city. There will be a retirement party from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 at Parks and Rec with a program at 2:30 p.m.

Johnson has seen many changes during his years in the position.

He said the development of Wylie Park ranks among his most satisfying accomplishments.

Johnson said he will miss the interaction he has had with so many on a regular basis.

Johnson has a few goals in mind for retirement. He plans to visit his son and then visit some of the National Parks that the country has to offer.
