PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The Joint Committee on Appropriations of the South Dakota legislature will meet today in Pierre.
Members will get an update on the year end budget report which shows a one hundred fifteen million dollar surplus.
Co-Chair Senator Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says this budget was written in March of last year.
Hunhoff says while the goal is to get a near zero carry over, having a surplus is a good move.
Senator Reynold Nesiba of Sioux Falls says those dollars become a powerful tool for the Governor.
Nesiba, a member of the Joint Committee on Appropriations, says they should have longer term revenue forecasts.
Nesiba says he will continue to support some sales tax rollbacks.
The committee will also get updates on current and projected state revenue forecasts.
