Joseph Hoek charged with first degree murder & eluding charges

MADISON, S.D.(KELO)- A Moody County Grand Jury has indicted murder suspect Joseph Hoek on First Degree Murder and Eluding charges.

Hoek was back in court to hear the charges Friday, which were announced by Attorney General Marty Jackley.

Hoek will be back in court next month.

In the meantime he’s being held without bond.

Attorney General Jackley says during that hearing he’ll inform Hoek on whether he will seek the death penalty.

Hoek accused of intentionally running down Moody County Chief Deputy Ken Prorok during a high-speed pursuit a week ago.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says Hoek will be back in court next month.

The Attorney General says he will continue to talk to Prorok’s family and the Moody County Sheriff’s office before making a decision on seeking the death penalty.
