Judiciary Committee kills bill that would have reduced drug ingestion penalty

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – A bill that would reduce the penalty for drug ingestion to a misdemeanor was in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee last Thursday.

Sponsor, Senator Craig Kennedy of Yankton says the bill is in line with the state’s meth control efforts.

Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says there are already options to reduce drug ingestion penalties.

Ravnsborg says the bill would include more dangerous drugs.

After a short debate, the committee voted 5-2 to send the bill to the 41st legislative day, killing it.
