Judith (Judy) Jane Anderson was born to Gordon and Fern (Nygaard) Treffry on February 26, 1942 in Montevideo, Minnesota. The family moved to Hastings, Nebraska where she attended school through fourth grade. Due to her mother’s illness and death, they moved to Pierpont, SD to live with relatives and continued to reside there until after her father remarried. A month prior to her senior year in high school, they moved to Webster, SD, where she was honored to be chosen Sweetheart Valentine Queen. She graduated in 1960.
Judy received her teaching certificate from Northern State Teachers College (NSTC) and taught in Rapid City and Aberdeen before marriage to Lonnie in 1964. They moved to Pierre, where she taught kindergarten, first grade and Head Start. In 1968 they were blessed with a son, Mark. She continued her education at NSTC earning Bachelor and Masters degrees in Elementary/Special Education. After a year in the Redfield Public School system, Judy then served as Educational Unit Director at Redfield State Hospital and School and was responsible for the school age children and the teaching staff at the facility. She enjoyed teaching children of all abilities. Early in her career she was chosen Outstanding Young Educator and received several other recognitions as her career progressed. Returning to Aberdeen later, Judy taught at Lincoln and OM Tiffany, retiring in 2004. She enjoyed participating in Beta Sigma Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma and other organizations.
Four grandsons were a highlight of her life. She cherished being actively involved in and attending many of their athletic, school, church and other events. Especially enjoyable were football games and track meets. The grandsons spent time during the summers with grandma and grandpa enjoying community activities, events, places of interest and just being together. Taco burgers, nacho navidads and fishing were favorites. The recent addition of a great granddaughter was a blessing.
Lonnie retired a year after Judy and for the next few years they enjoyed traveling with special friends. They traveled through Glacier National Park to Banff, Alberta, Canada and through Arizona, Texas, Arkansas and Georgia. Their travel included attending the Masters Golf Tournament and many other points of interest. Branson, Missouri was a favorite. Lonnie was the love of her life and they recently celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Bethlehem Lutheran Church was a special blessing to Judy. She was a member for many years and enjoyed teaching, participation in activities including Bible and book studies, serving on various teams, assisting with home communion, Lenton Luncheons and enjoying the many special opportunities provided.
