Judy O. Hill was born on September 25th, 1929, at the family farm in rural Veblen, SD, to Clifford and Lila (Oland) Hill. Judy attended and graduated from Lidgerwood High School as salutatorian in 1947.

Judy married Albert Leroy Baumann on October 18th, 1947, in Veblen, SD at Palestine Lutheran Church. They made their home on the family homestead of Clifford and Lila shortly after uniting in marriage. To this union five children were born: Karen, Leo, Sandie, Cathy, and Linda.

Judy was a homemaker and also worked at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lidgerwood. Following this, she worked at Wolfe Ford for 19 years as a bookkeeper.

After retirement, she moved to Aberdeen, SD in 2004 where she enjoyed her warm and cozy home and she enjoyed her flower gardens, watching and feeding birds, and mowing her lawn. She also loved reading, watching South Dakota Public Television, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune.

One of Judy’s abilities was to mail birthday cards to family and friends to arrive on the exact birth date. No one knew how she was able to accomplish this.

School and Church programs were a priority for her to attend for all her children and grandchildren.

Judy was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Veblen, SD until moving to Aberdeen in 2004. She joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church while living in Aberdeen. Her faith was eminent to her.

Judy is survived by her daughters: Sandie MacConnell of Lidgerwood, ND, Cathy (Dennis) McGarry of Aberdeen, SD, and Linda Ivey of Aberdeen, SD; sister, Ann Hill of Brooklyn Heights, NY; grandchildren: Abby Franklund and Adam Marohl; Crystal Poor Thunder, Charles MacConnell, and Missy Metzger; Kelsey McGarry and Meredith McGarry; Brian Ivey and Brandon Ivey; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Lila and Clifford; husband, Albert; daughter, Karen Marohl; son, Leo Baumann; granddaughters: Angelie Ann and Sammie Jo MacConnell, and Ardeen Olan Obando; sister, Patty Scully; and brother, Curtis Hill.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to The Salvation Army or South Dakota Public Broadcasting in memory of Judy.
