Judith “Judy” M. (Hoven) Schnabel, 70, of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Visitation, with family present, will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. A prayer service and time of sharing will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield with Fr. John Short officiating. Lunch and fellowship will follow in the church hall.

Judy M. Hoven was born January 26, 1954, in Bowdle, SD, to Donald and Mildred (Haas) Hoven. She spent her childhood and youth growing up in Bowdle. She graduated from Bowdle High School. Then, she attended and graduated from South Dakota State University for nursing. Judy also taught CCD at the local Catholic church for many years.
On May 7, 1977, she married Delbert Schnabel in Bowdle and to this union, 4 sons were born. Judy and her husband then moved to Redfield, SD. She was a nurse at a local Redfield nursing home for 45 years until retiring in 2022. Then, she enjoyed more time the last 2 years with family and friends.
Family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and watching and feeding the birds on the deck. She loved to cook for everyone.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, Delbert Schnabel, of Redfield, SD; and children: Boomer (Terri) Schnabel of Waukon IA; Josh Schnabel of Watertown SD; Wesley Schnabel of Harrisburg SD, and Simon (Tina) Schnabel of Aberdeen SD. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother Mark (Rhonda) Hoven of Aberdeen SD; sisters: Diana Bond of Las Vegas NV; Linda (Jerry) Goetz of Maple Grove MN; and Tracy (Jim) Helms of Waseca MN; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents.
