Juvenile arrested for entering Brookings residence

BROOKINGS, S.D. (KJJQ) – Brookings police arrested a juvenile who had entered a Brookings residence in the early morning hours of May 10.

It happened shortly before 3 o’clock that morning on the 1000 block of Third Avenue South. The doors had been unlocked. The female resident saw the suspect, screamed and he fled.

Assistant Police Chief Derrick Powers says the suspect returned to the same residence in the early morning hours of the May 12 and May 13.

Powers says police had set up surveillance at the scene. That led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male.  He has been charged as a juvenile with two counts of 1st degree burglary and stalking.

Powers says they believe incidents of this type have been going on in that area since October of last year.
