Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State University head coach Paula Krueger announced the additions of four student-athletes to their 2025-26 roster. Makenzie Carrier (Kasson, Minn.), Ava Hanson (Aberdeen, S.D.), Brooklynn Holmberg (Prior Lake, Minn.), and Reagan Rus (Mount Vernon, S.D.) will join the Wolves in the fall of 2025.
“We are excited to add the toughness and athleticism of these four young ladies to our squad,” noted Krueger. “They each bring something unique to the court. We look forward to having them in Wolves Country.”
Makenzie Carrier – Guard, Kasson, Minn. / Kasson-Mantorville HS
Makenzie Carrier is a 5-foot-7 guard out of Kasson-Mantorville High School. She is a 4-year starter and senior team captain for the KoMets under the direction of head coach Ryan Haraldson. Carrier averaged double figure points as a sophomore and junior and over four rebounds per game. She is a 2-time all-conference honoree and Post Bulletin All-Area honorable mention team member. Heading into her senior campaign, Carrier is a Minnesota Junior All-Star Preseason team member and Breakdown Spots media USA Super 100 Senior. She is the daughter of Jamie and Jenny Carrier.
Krueger’s Thoughts: “Makenzie brings a grit and toughness to the court. She has several games with multiple charges taken and there isn’t a loose ball she won’t dive on. Makenzie is a great facilitator and shoots the 3 consistently.”
Ava Hanson – Guard, Aberdeen, S.D. / Roncalli HS
Ava Hanson is a 5-foot-10 guard out of Roncalli High School. She is a 3-year starter and 2-year team captain for the Cavaliers under the direction of head coach Derek Larson. Hanson averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game a season ago. She is a 2-time all-conference selection and 2024 all-state honorable mention team member. In addition, Hanson holds the RHS school record for most 3-point baskets in a game. Roncalli won the South Dakota State Championship in 2021. She is the daughter of Angie and Ryan Hanson.
Krueger’s Thoughts: “Ava brings length and athleticism to the perimeter. She can guard multiple positions and the size to be a great rebounder. Her height and length will allow her to post up smaller guards, and she shoots the 3 solid efficiency.”
Brooklynn Holmberg – Guard, Prior Lake, Minn. / Prior Lake HS
Brooklynn Holmberg is a 5-foot-10 guard out of Prior Lake High School. She is a 2-year starter and senior team captain for the Lakers. As a junior, Holmberg averaged 11.0 points per game, leading the Lakers with 298 season points. She is a 2-time South Suburban All-Conference selection. She is the daughter of Ida and Jason Holmberg.
Krueger’s Thoughts: “Brooklyn is a multi-level scorer, who is very strong finishing at the rim. Her length and aggressiveness make her hard to guard and will allow her to defend multiple positions.”
Reagan Rus – Guard, Mount Vernon, S.D. / Mount Vernon School
Reagan Rus is a 5-foot-8 guard out of Mount Vernon School. She is a 4-year starter and senior team captain for the Titans under the direction of head coach Preston Kristensen. As a junior, Rus averaged 16.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, earning all-conference, all-state, and state all-tournament team honors. Mount Vernon took seventh at the SDHSAA State Tournament in the spring of 2024. In addition, she is a 2-time volleyball state champion and 4-time state placer in track and field for the Titans. She is the daughter of Kelly Engelland and Mike Rus.
Krueger’s Thoughts: “Reagan brings a toughness to the court that can’t be taught. She has played multiple positions in both club and high school, so her versatility is a great strength. Reagan is strong around the rim and is very good rebounding guard.”
