Lake Area Technical Institute President excited for name change

WATERTOWN, S.D. (KWAT) — Lake Area Technical Institute will take on a new name this summer.

Effective July 1, LATI will become known as Lake Area Technical College.

A bill changing the names of South Dakota’s four technical institutes was signed into law Tuesday by Governor Kristi Noem.

LATI President Mike Cartney is fully on board with the change.

With the name change will come a re-branding of sorts all over campus, everything from stationery to signage.

The school’s name will change, but its mission will not.

South Dakota’s four technical schools are located in Watertown, Mitchell, Sioux Falls and Rapid City.

The prime sponsors of House Bill 1083 were Representative Hugh Bartels of Watertown and Senator Jim White of Huron.
