Langer, Greenfield apologize during committee hearing

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – The interim Senate Investigation committee of the South Dakota legislature is meeting today to hear about the behavior and possible penalties for two Senators on the last day of the 2020 session.

Senator Phil Jensen of Rapid City filed a complaint that Senate Majority Leader Kris Langer of Dell Rapids and Senate President Pro Tem Brock Greenfield of Clark appeared to be drunk in the Capitol in the early morning of March 31.

In a statement before the Committee, Langer apologized.

Greenfield also apologized.

One of the first witnesses was House Speaker Steven Haugaard of Sioux Falls.

The committee could impose penalties ranging from expulsion to a reprimand.
