BROOKINGS, S.D. (KJJQ) – It ‘s still unknown what college football will look like across the nation this fall. That includes South Dakota State University. Not having any or a reduced number of games or having games with limited numbers of fans would have a significant economic impact on the university and on Brookings.
Two of the major conferences have canceled non-conference games and the Patriot League has cancelled all fall sports.
SDSU President Barry Dunn says many questions remain.
SDSU started practicing on Monday. Dunn says the coaches are doing a great job with safety measures, but it’s not certain at this point if other teams will be able to travel.
A decision on the season will have to be made soon.
President Dunn says you might be able to run cross country or play golf in a pandemic, but it’s going to be difficult with football and other close contact sports.
