PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Law enforcement from across South Dakota marked National Police Week Wednesday with a wreath laying and memorial service in Pierre. At the Capitol Lake wreath laying ceremony, Sioux Falls Police Chief John Thum says two words govern the service of law enforcement.
Across the street from the Capitol complex at Lutheran Memorial Church Governor Kristi Noem told officers in attendance at the annual memorial service that South Dakotan respect the sacrifice of law enforcement.
Noem, reading from a book she received says there is only one kind of courage and the state’s law enforcement has it.
Blue carnations were laid on a table surrounding an officer’s service cap as Pierre Police Chief Jason Jones read a roll call of all 68 South Dakota law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
