Lawmakers begin making some adjustments to budget

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has said she will call the legislature back for a special session in June to deal with expected budget cuts.

During the last day of the 2020 session last week, legislators made some adjustments to the current budget.

Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says they made provisions for spending federal dollars.

Hunhoff, a member of the Joint Appropriations Committee, says they also made some reallocations.

Hunhoff says they set up an emergency fund to help local governments.

Legislators also passed 11 emergency bills dealing with the pandemic, most giving the Governor expanded powers to react.
