Lawmakers deal with authority on spending federal dollars from rescue plan

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – The South Dakota legislature drilled through about a dozen emergency bills in the final day of the 2020 session Monday.

One bill dealt with authority to spend federal dollars coming from one of the rescue plans.

Representative Chris Karr, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, detailed what they are expecting.

Liza Clark with the Bureau of Finance and Management says they are asking to have the spending authority in an existing program.

Clark says the money in this authority is coming from the second federal rescue plan.

That bill passed the House on a vote of 66-0.
