YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – South Dakota lawmakers signed off on recommendations of the Joint Committee on Appropriations during the special session Monday.
Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton, a member of the JCA, says they put a lot of work into those spending decisions.
The state got over $1.2 billion from the federal government for COVID-19 related costs.
Hunhoff says the resolutions passed by the legislature gives the Governor authority to spend the almost $600 million still outstanding.
Hunhoff says the recommendations are a compromise.
Hunhoff says she believes the dollars can be spent by the end of the year to meet federal guidelines.
