Legislators look to find solutions for the housing needs in South Dakota this week

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- A plan to spend up to two hundred million dollars for housing in South Dakota got hung up in the House last week.

House Minority Leader Jamie Smith of Sioux Falls says that was disappointing.

Smith says the program would benefit all parts of the state.

Smith says the issue has had several studies and members know the need.

A bill was amended down to fifty million dollars. Representative Mike Stevens of Yankton says there are several issues at work.

Stevens says there are still lots of unanswered questions with the housing bill.

Governor Kristi Noem included the two hundred million dollar housing proposal in her budget request.

The final day of the main run of the session is this Thursday.
