Lewis & Clark Regional Water Project seeing increase demand due to the heat

VERMILLION, S.D.(WNAX)- One of the larger water projects in the region is feeling the heat as demand rises.

Troy Larson, Executive Director of the Lewis & Clark Regional Water Project says they hit record production each day for the last week.

Larson says some of the cities they serve are using other water sources too.

Larson says they are adding another large capacity well, but not this year.

The water treatment plant north of Vermillion has a current maximum capacity of 45,000,000 gallons of water a day.

The project serves towns and cities in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota.
