Lewis & Clark system sets record for water consumption in a day

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – Even as construction continues for the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System, they are setting records for usage.

Executive Director Troy Larson says they hit a new high last month.

Larson says they may have to restrict water use for the next year.

Larson says they had to reduce the amount of water they were pulling from their wells.

Larson says they will be building a new radial collector well next year that will give them the capacity they need to serve all their customers into the future.

The water system service towns and cities in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. The wells are located near the Missouri River south of Vermillion.
